WHAT IS LEAGUE AGE?

When registering for the spring season, a player will request a level of play at a particular level. But what level? The following provides an overview of Pacific Little League Divisions. While Little League International uses the "League Age" requirements to define eligibility for upper divisions, each little league is able to define their own age criteria to separate players for safe play in younger divisions.

"League Age" is determined by Little League International. Pacific Little League is open to all children between the ages of 5 and 18 who reside in the boundaries, as defined by the residence or school address.

For little league softball, the "as of date" is December 31st of the current year.

WHICH DIVISION SHOULD I CHOOSE?

SOFTBALL DIVISIONS AT PACIFIC LITTLE LEAGUE

Division Age Range General Grade Level
T Ball (Coed) 5-6 Pre-K - K
Rookies 6-7-8 K - 2nd Grade
Minors 9-11 3rd -5th Grade
Majors 10-12 4th - 7th Grade

Seniors 14-16 9th - 10th Grade

T-BALL (hit from a batting tee)

  • Players who are league age 5 and 6 are eligible to be selected to a T-Ball team.
  • This division is typically intended for pre-school and kindergarteners. Players hit the ball from a batting tee for the season and may have opportunities at the end of the season for coach pitch or soft-toss.
  • If your child is 5 or 6 and has never played organized baseball, T-Ball is a great place to begin. If your child is 6 and has played a season in T-Ball, you can move your child to the Farm level.

ROOKIES
At this level, players will have fun while learning the basics of the game of softball.

  • Age: 7 - 9 year olds
  • Hitting: Players will hit off coach pitch or a mechanical pitching machine.
  • Field Size: The field size is 60-foot base path and pitching is at 35 feet
  • Ball Type: 11 inch softball
  • Team Formation: Teams are formed randomly by a player agent though, at this level, they do try to accommodate "buddy requests", allowing kids to play with friends.
  • Post Season: TBD but usually consists of some kind of local tournament play.

MINORS
This is an introduction to full softball with all of the complexities of the game.

  • Age: 9 - 10 - 11 year olds
  • Hitting: Players will be hitting both machine and live pitch
  • Field Size: The field size is 60-foot base path and pitching is at 35 feet
  • Ball Type: 11 inch softball
  • Team Formation: Teams are formed randomly by a player agent though, at this level, they do try to accommodate "buddy requests", allowing kids to play with friends. Players who have tried out for Majors softball and were not ready for that level of play will be placed by a player agent on a minors team.
  • Post Season: TBD but usually consists of some kind of local tournament play.

MAJORS
The Major league level is a competitive level that continues to stress fundamental softball and introduce more advance softball techniques and strategies.

  • Age: 10 - 12 year olds
  • Hitting: Players will be hitting off of player pitching for all 6 innings
  • Field Size: The field size is 60-foot base path and pitching is at 40 feet
  • Ball Type: 12 inch softball
  • Team Formation: Players will participate in a evaluation (tryout) and be drafted onto a team. If players are not selected in the Major's draft they will be placed on a Minor league team.
  • Post Season: TBD but usually consists of some kind of local tournament play.
